I have been testing watches for a few years, time goes by very quickly and sometimes I don't realize how many products I test. This month I am testing two Kospet watches (Kospet Tank X2 Ultra and Kospet Tank S2) and I realized that I have tested more than 60 watches of all types. Kospet is one of the brands that I have tested the most, so I thought I had already seen everything with them but that was without counting this new X2 Ultra. When I saw the first pictures I found that the watch had a bit of a curious appearance with its vertical orientation but since I don't stop at this kind of detail, I told myself that I had to test it.

When I opened the box, I went from a doubtful impression to a very positive one. This new Kospet watch has nothing to do with the other Kospet watches I have tested, Kospet goes up a notch in terms of finish and aesthetics with this watch. The vertical shape is practical and elegant, it fits perfectly with the bracelet, it reminds me of the Amazfit X Curved that I tested a few years ago.

The first contact is therefore rather positive, let's now see what this watch has in its belly with this new test.

Timeline

September 23, 2024: the watch has arrived (along with the Kospet Tank S2), so testing of the two watches can begin. Testing a watch's functionalities is fairly quick, but certain elements such as autonomy or the reliability of heart rate measurements can take longer.

Waarom deze smartwatch?

The great thing about watch testing is that these are products I use every day, so I don't have to set aside any specific time to test them. I've been using connected watches for a few years, so there's a kind of continuity in my use. I also do a bit of sport, mainly cycling, walking and a bit of running. This allows me to test the performance of the watches in very similar conditions.

Structure of my tests

I test products according to a pre-established structure (see below) to provide you with maximum information. Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time. Unlike some sites where products are tested on a single day, I use the products I test for a minimum of a few weeks and sometimes even a few months. Unpacking

Kospet has refined its visual identity over the last two years, settling on fairly compact, sober and effective packaging. The Kospet Tank X2 Ultra is obviously illustrated here, but I find that the photo doesn't really do it justice - in fact, it was this effect that put a doubt in my mind before opening the box.

The box contains only the watch and a magnetic charging cable. So there's no circular charging station like the previous models, because the bracelet wouldn't work with this type of charger. The bracelet is integrated into the watch and creates a curve that would not allow it to be recharged with a charging station. It's no big deal, though, as the cable is magnetized and adheres perfectly to the watch

First configuration

Initial configuration of the watch is via the Kospet Fit application. As I've tested several models from this brand, the app was already on my phone. This enabled me to see that it's possible to manage several watches with the same account, but synchronizing only one watch at a time

Adding the watch to the app is done via Bluetooth, so you simply need to activate Bluetooth on your phone and launch the device search from the phone. If your watch needs updating, the app will launch the update automatically. The process is quick and I've never had any problems.

Connectivity

The watch connects via Bluetooth with your phone to synchronize the data collected, but it also has its own GPS chip, enabling you to use it outdoors without the aid of a smartphone. The presence of a GPS chip will enable geolocation data to be added to outdoor sports, but will not guide you on the road. This type of watch has no maps to take you from point A to point B.

Battery range

Kospet watches generally have good battery life, and it's this point that takes up the most time in my tests. I'll probably need several weeks to see if the battery life is as good as that of previous models. The battery was at 75% when I received it, and two weeks later it was still at 39% when I used the watch daily.

Screen quality

The screen is a 1.64-inch display using AMOLED technology and boasts a resolution of 280x456 pixels. Contrast is particularly good, black is really black and enhances screen legibility even under sunlight. The reflectivity of the screen is quite high. When using the watch in a brightly lit environment, you'll probably have to tilt the watch a little to read the screen, as the whole environment will be reflected in the display. The screen is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 type of protection sometimes found on certain phones.

- music player (controls your music application on the phone, eg: Spotify)

This watch is therefore ultra-complete and offers a fairly high level of settings, such as for heart rate measurements, where you can activate alerts in the event of a heart rate that's too low or too high.

You can make and receive calls from the watch, which is equipped with a speaker and microphone so you can hold a conversation without having to hold the phone. Obviously, as this is a Bluetooth link, you'll need to keep your phone no more than 5 to 10 meters away from the watch. The watch is not completely autonomous, as it is not equipped with an eSim.

Measurements

Heart rate measurement

Many watches are capable of tracking heart rate, but few are able to do it properly. Among the watches I've tested, the two most common problems are sensor quality and update frequency. If the update frequency isn't sufficient, the watch will miss measurements, and if you practice a sport with changes in pace, a frequency that's too slow will lead to less reliable results

I tested the Kospet X2 Ultra with the Kospet Tank S2 (other wrist) and obtained quite interesting results

The number of steps estimated by my Kinsgsmith Walkingpad X21 treadmill is a bit overestimated, I think the exact figure is probably closer to 2200 steps

The highest heart rate measurement is fairly close to the value measured by the Polar belt, but the average is too far off. I think the frequency of measurements plays a role in the calculation here. The number of steps is a little underestimated, but as I had to use my left arm to steady myself at certain points, the watch probably thought I wasn't walking. Other step count tests I've done tend to result in a slightly higher step count, but it also depends on the type of walking and the ground surface

The Kospet Tank S2 is much closer to the measurement taken by the Polar belt, and the number of steps also seems more correct, as I didn't put my right arm down during the exercise

GPS accuracy

I tested the GPS accuracy over a distance of 22 km. The first connection to the GPS network took less than a minute, which is pretty good for a first-time user. Accuracy, on the other hand, was rather erratic over the next minute, when I noticed quite significant deviations from reality. These deviations were subsequently reduced, with the occasional deviation as shown in the following screenshots. I tested the Kospet Tank S2 at the same time as this watch (on my other arm) and obtained a different result. The first connection took longer, but after that the deviations were smaller

The Kospet Tank X2 Ultra will therefore give you an overview of your route, but with occasional deviations. In principle, if you use it to measure your sporting performance, these deviations shouldn't pose too many problems unless you need exact mileage

The average speed was a little underestimated, but the variations were quite realistic



Oxygen in the blood

I don't have a medical device to be able to compare the results with those of this watch but the results seem reliable to me with values between 98 and 100% most of the time

Sleep measurement

The sleep measurement seems fairly reliable, because even if the watch tends to consider a lack of activity in the evening as sleep, it is possible to adjust it so that it follows your daily rhythm a little better. For example, you can set the watch to start tracking sleep at a specific time. This will prevent you from having periods of sleep when you're not very active in the evening.

App

I've already tested the Kospet Fit application on several occasions, and I haven't noticed any new features with this watch, but I do think that the sports activity tracking has improved a lot. In the previous version, it wasn't easy to find the history of sports sessions, nor was it easy to obtain details of measurements. This time around, all recorded sessions are in the same place, and as the watch collects more information (notably from the GPS), the screens are also much more detailed.

The downloadable screens are quite numerous, with something for every taste. You can also set permissions for notifications, synchronize your contacts, configure the watch's behavior

The Kospet Fit app is pretty complete and apart from a few translation errors, it works pretty well overall

Compatibility

The Kospet Fit app runs on Android and iOS.

Operating system

The operating system of the Kospet Tank X2 Ultra is the same as that of other Kospet watches, but it's presented rather differently.
The home screen is configurable, so you can opt for an ultra-simple dial or something more complicated with data on your activities. The top screen still gives access to shortcuts and watch configuration, but the other screens are quite different. Notifications are located on the left-hand screen in relation to the home screen. The bottom screen displays a summary of all activities recorded on the watch, and can also be used to trigger a measurement or activate a countdown timer. Finally, the right-hand screen displays the watch's functionalities in the form of graphical widgets

The watch's functionalities can be displayed in a variety of ways (icons, lists, etc.) and can be accessed by clicking on the right-hand button. Sports modes are accessed by clicking on the left button. If you've never had a Kospet watch before, you'll probably get used to it fairly quickly. If you've used a Kospet watch before, you'll probably have to change some of your automatisms, as the organization of the menus on this watch is completely different.

Test / Review conclusion

I've tested a number of Kospet watches in recent years, and while I've noticed a progression in their aesthetics, the Kospet X2 Ultra takes a bigger leap forward than the others. The use of metal instead of plastic plays a big part in the perception of the watch, and the feel is also quite different. I had my doubts about using a vertical screen, but after installing the watch on my wrist, I found it very logical and appropriate for a watch of this type.

The screen is of very good quality, the contrast is excellent and all the information is very legible. It's also responsive, and I haven't noticed any slowdowns or misfires when I've used it. Kospet doesn't deny its rugged watch origins either, the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and the watch as a whole meets military requirements with 15 MIL-STD-810H certifications. Kospet has found a good balance between its DNA of robustness and elegance

The Kospet X2 Ultra is richly packed with features, I think it brings together all the functionality available in connected watches on the market today. Watches often work quite unidirectionally when they sync with a smartphone, but here you have some interaction possibilities like making a call directly from the watch. The sound is broadcast by the watch, so you don't need to have your phone in your hand.

This watch is capable of measuring a whole host of things, but you have to be aware of certain limitations. The heart rate measurement gives a good indication of reality, but the difference with a Polar H10 belt is quite significant. I wouldn't put too much stock in blood pressure measurements either, as there's no substitute for a medical device for this kind of measurement. The other measurements are correct, so I don't think this watch is designed for those looking for sports performance, its reaction time in the measurements is probably too slow. Rather, it's aimed at a public looking for a good-looking, solid watch with connected functions such as message synchronization and an indication of biological measurements.

I tend to change watches often because I test several a year, but I think I'll keep this one around my wrist a little longer.
