Yeedi Vac 2 Pro: test / review

Published on: 16-04-2022 / Modified: 07-10-2022

I have tested many vacuum cleaners in recent months and over a relatively short period of time, I have been able to realize how fiercely competing the manufacturers of robot vacuum cleaners are to seduce the consumer. Everyone dreams of being able to get rid of household chores, manufacturers have understood this and it is this promise that now represents the common thread in trying to convince you. Promise or reality? This is the question I will answer with this test.

For this test, I will test the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro. This robot vacuum is a bit at the crossroads between a robot vacuum and the robot cleaner. Combining the two functions is not an easy thing, the cleaning function of robot vacuum cleaners was often limited to the presence of a static mop on the back of the vacuum cleaner. This kind of mechanism just moistens the soil. The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro retains all the advantages of an intelligent robot vacuum cleaner but is equipped with a removable cleaning block and this cleaning block works with a vibration system to loosen dirt from the floor. I hadn't had the opportunity to test this kind of technology yet, I'm curious to see the result and compare it to the Yeedi Mop Station with its rotating cleaning brushes.

Yeedi brand vacuum cleaners use a camera on top of the robot to track it. This camera is not intended to film you obviously, it uses a 3D navigation system to allow the robot to position itself in relation to its environment. This allows him, for example, to find his way between the legs of a chair.

This 3D guidance system is accompanied by an infrared sensor on the side, there is one in front and two on the sides. These sensors are installed on a kind of bumper at the front of the vacuum cleaner, this will allow the vacuum cleaner to touch its environment to better identify obstacles. I noticed that it will hit dark objects more easily than light objects but it will not deliberately crash into an obstacle, this bumper will on the contrary allow you to gauge the resistance of an obstacle to see if it is necessary around it or if the obstacle can be moved.

The cleaning module is really a component in its own right where previous models combined tank and suction. This Yeedi Vac 2 Pro is equipped with a separate cleaning module, so you will be able to use the vacuum cleaner mode without creating a wet streak. This module is equipped with a vibration system which aims to loosen dirt encrusted on the ground.

On the lower part of the robot you will find the notched wheels which allow you to pass over a small difference in level (about 1 cm), you can also access the external rotating brush to, for example, remove the hair that will have wrapped around it. of it. There is also an access hatch to the rotating brush inside and here too you will sometimes have to remove it to clean it. Access is very easy and maintenance is not very complicated. On the periphery you will find several depth sensors that will allow the vacuum cleaner to detect stairs.

Yeedi robot vacuum cleaners have their own brand identity, they are all white and they all have a fairly clean design. This robot vacuum cleaner is quite wide, it has a width of about 35 cm, so it will not go everywhere. It has a height of about 8 cm, it is an important element to know if it will pass correctly under your furniture. With me it has managed to go everywhere.

Here is a short video summary:
youtube previewyoutube preview

First start

youtube previewyoutube preview

For the first start you will have to work a little to make life easier for your robot. It is advisable to free up your parts to be cleaned as the first start will be used to map the environment. The vacuum cleaner will use a technique of parallel lines to gradually map your home, this first mapping takes longer than a cleaning session and the robot sometimes makes bizarre choices. Do not place the docking station in a corner like in this video because the robot may not find the dock. I had made the mistake of placing it in a corner for lack of space but the robot could not find its way. By placing the station on a more open area, the robot was able to easily find its station.

Obstacle detection

youtube previewyoutube preview

For his first scouting, I filmed some more complicated places for a robot vacuum cleaner to clean. First there is the cupboard on wheels where my birdcage is. The robot had no trouble fitting between the 4 wheels, it then took the time to clean each corner but it took time to get out of this area because there was only one possible exit. My presence at the exit probably played a role because I see that the infrared ray caused a flash on the film, the robot probably judged that I was an obstacle.

I then filmed him in a narrower passage where he had to navigate between a chair and the leg of a table. The robot manages to fit perfectly into the space but we see here that, as with the cupboard in the previous example, the robot takes time to identify but ends up finding a solution to get out of the area in which it is is located.

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro uses a 3D modeling system of its environment to better avoid obstacles. This system works fairly well provided that the obstacles are large enough and heavy enough. If it doesn't meet enough resistance, it will push the object further. It's kind of the same problem with most robot vacuums, so it's always best to clear the surface you want to clean before starting the vacuum.

Operating noise

youtube previewyoutube preview

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro has three suction modes and the noise emitted by the vacuum cleaner will strongly depend on the intensity of the suction. My measuring device was placed within 50cm of the robot and I ran the robot through the three available suction modes. With the lowest power, I measured between 65 and 70 db. With the intermediate mode, I measured 70 to 73 dB and with the most powerful suction mode the noise rose to 75 dB. It's not the quietest vacuum cleaner I've tested, it's not the loudest either, it's about average.

Suction efficiency

On tiles

youtube previewyoutube preview

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro is capable of recovering dirt the size of pasta or bread croutons, however, the height of what needs to be vacuumed must not exceed the height of the passage under the vacuum cleaner, otherwise it will be pushed further. As the dirt is not necessarily placed exactly in the passage of the vacuum cleaner, it may be that some dirt is ejected further before being sucked up but a priori, the vacuum cleaner will catch them on the next pass. I have always had good results with Yeedi robots for this kind of dirt and I always recommend vacuuming twice to be sure to pick up the dirt that was ejected on the first pass.

On carpet

Vacuuming carpets is not the strength of robot vacuums, but they can nevertheless recover all surface dirt from carpets. For deep cleaning a stick vacuum cleaner is more effective. Small rugs without an adhesive surface will probably be moved with the vacuum cleaner.

Cleaning efficiency

I made a few stains on my tiles by throwing water and walking in them with dirty shoes, then I let everything dry a little to get this:
IMG_20220327_143008

I then let the robot do its job:
youtube previewyoutube preview

and I get this in the end:
IMG_20220327_144225

and the mop:
IMG_20220327_150018

Mission accomplished!

This robot works by vibration, so it doesn't leave a mop trailing behind it, its behavior even seems erratic when it moves because instead of moving forward continuously, it moves forward and backward several times at each place it passes. The operating noise is also different from that generated by the suction mode. With this unique vibration system, Yeedi offers here a robot that will allow you to clean all superficial stains in one or two passes (or more for more resistant stains).

This is the second robot cleaner I've tested after the Yeedi Mop Station (which I still use by the way) and it's hard to decide between these two robots, they are both effective for the same type of stains. The toughest stains will always require human intervention. For these robots to be effective, they must be rotated regularly or intervene quickly after causing a stain, this will prevent you from accumulating dirt which will be more difficult to clean later.

Battery life

The battery life will depend on the vacuuming/cleaning mode used. Without going into a scientific comparison, I noticed that in standard suction mode, the vacuum cleaner consumes about 1% per square meter traveled. If you use the maximum suction mode, the consumption will increase and the consumption will go up between 1.5 and 2% per square meter.

The travel time will depend on the number of obstacles in the path of the vacuum cleaner but if I take my house as a reference, I have a travel time of about 2 minutes per square meter. This should lead me to have an autonomy of approximately 200 minutes in continuous use and in standard mode. This figure is purely theoretical because the vacuum will return to its base to either empty the tank or recharge, it will not suddenly stop in the middle of a room when it has run out of battery.

The water tank is not very big (180ml) but with an average water flow, it is possible to clean an area of about 40m². The surface will therefore be larger if you decrease the water flow.

Yedi app

youtube previewyoutube preview

To use this robot you must use the Yeedi application which allows you to control all your Yeedi devices in the same application. You can define the type of cleaning (automatic or well-defined area), the suction force, the amount of water to use,... You can also schedule your cleaning sessions or activate continuous cleaning.

I started my test with version 1.3.5 and had some problems creating the base map but after upgrading to version 1.5 the map generation finally worked so I was able to access to the full functionality of the application. The generation of the map is essential to be able to program your cleaning on a particular area.

Docking station

The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro is compatible with the Vac Station docking station. This station is not sold with this robot, you can buy it separately. This station will allow the robot to make about ten trips before the station tank is filled. This tank used a traditional collection bag. The collection of dirt from the vacuum cleaner to the station is done by suction, this process is quite noisy but the complete suction takes less than a minute.

Comparison with Roborock S7

As I wrote above, manufacturers of robot vacuum cleaners are in fierce competition and it is not easy to navigate. The Yeedi 2 Pro's most direct competitor is the Roborock S7. I haven't tested the latter, so I can only compare the specs of each robot.

Detection technology:

3D visualization for the Yeedi
Lidar for Roborock
I tested these two types of technologies in different robot vacuum cleaners and did not really notice any fundamental differences for use in a home. The Lidar offers a view over a significant distance where the camera will better model its environment in 3D and can therefore in theory better circumvent obstacles.

Suction power

3000Pa for Yeedi
2500Pa for Roborock
Advantage therefore in Yeedi which is a little more powerful

Height

77mm for the Yeedi
96mm for the Roborock
Advantage to Yeedi which is flatter and will therefore pass more easily under furniture

Number of brushes

Both robots are equipped with a single rotating brush to bring dirt into the suction area.

Cleaning technique

Cleaning by forward / backward movements for the Yeedi
Sonic vibration cleaning for the Roborock
The movement seems stronger with the Yeedi but I would have to test the Roborock to check the differences

Tanks

420ml for dust on the Yeedi
470ml for dust on the Roborock
180ml for water on the Yeedi
300ml for water on the Roborock
Advantage to Roborock for capacity, especially for water.

Battery Capacity

Both robots have a battery capacity of 5200mAh
The autonomy announced by the Roborock does not seem very high to me with 150 minutes where the Yeedi exceeds 200 minutes.

Operating noise

I measured a sound level between 65 and 70 dB for the Yeedi and this corresponds to the 67 db announced in the documentation. The Roborock announces a noise level between 61 and 72 db, so I think the robots therefore produce a fairly similar noise.

Conclusion / opinion

I have tested more than ten vacuum cleaners in the last 12 months, I do not consider myself an expert in this field but I have experience that allows me to compare the different vacuum cleaners that I have tested. The Yeedi Vac 2 Pro fits almost naturally between robots that only do suction and those that have a real cleaning function like the Yeedi Mop Station. It takes over the strengths of robot vacuum cleaners with good suction power and provides an improvement over robots with a fixed mop.

For the suction part, the Yeedi Vac 2 Pro does a good job like most of the other robot vacuums I've tested so far. I can't say it outclasses all the others, it's in the right range, it's efficient. Reviews of other Yeedi-branded robots are mostly positive on Amazon.

For the cleaning part, I was positively surprised by this robot because although it is a little less efficient than the Yeedi Mop Station, it is able to get rid of all superficial stains or tougher stains if they are recent. Its vibration system gives it an erratic side in its movement but the forward / backward movements correspond quite well to what a human being would do to eliminate a stain. This robot obviously won't replace a real person for the most difficult stains, but if you use it regularly (or quickly in the case of a new stain), it will help you maintain cleanliness.

If you want to use this robot for a large area or if you have pets at home, you may need to pair it with a docking station that will empty the tank without your intervention. I don't have any animals at home, so the tank is enough not to have to empty it.

Strengths

Good suction force
Good autonomy
Reduced height to pass under furniture
Good tracking ability
Cleaning efficiency better than a conventional mop
Many programming possibilities
Possibility to remove the tank to concentrate on suction

Weaknesses

A second rotating brush would probably have saved time
The water tank is quite small
Ignores small objects
